My name is Shannon Myers and I am a ceramic artist. I have a BFA from SUNY Fredonia in Sculpture and a Master’s degree in Arts Education. I am currently the Art Department Chair at North County High School where I teach Sculpture and Ceramics as well as Foundations of Art. After my undergraduate years, I moved to Baltimore and have been involved in numerous local arts programs including Baltimore Clayworks (teacher of adults and children from 2007-2012), the Potter’s Guild of Baltimore (teaching member from 2016-2020), Monocacy River Pottery (2014-2021) and Maryland Hall in Annapolis (teacher of adults and children from 2023-present). At Baltimore Clayworks, I began my lifelong passion for wood fired pottery and I have been creating functional wood fired pots ever since. In 2012, I began my career as an art teacher and have been pursuing that career for the last 12 years while creating and teaching pottery on the side.

My current body of work is both midfire electric and high fire wood. I have been learning about mid fire electric pottery at my newest venture at Maryland Hall which is why you will see two different looks to my work. The midfire works are lighter and more colorful, while the wood fired works are more earthly. In both avenues, I throw my pieces on the wheel then hand carve my designs. I use underglaze to add color or contrast before the glaze or wood firing. The inspirations for my drawings come from nature and music as I am an avid lover of both. I spend much of my free time in the woods hiking with my family and enjoying live music.

I enjoy taking commissions and working on custom pieces for those interested in my style. If you are interested in having a commission piece please reach out to me at earthanddewpottery@gmail.com
